Finish a website project with realistic editor tasks, a clear ownership record and a short post-launch review that catches operational gaps.

A website is not fully handed over because the client has a login and a recording. The team needs to complete its routine tasks, understand the boundaries of the system and know where to go when something needs attention.
Choose tasks from the real publishing workflow
Ask the team what it will change in a normal month. Common tasks include publishing an article, updating a service, adding a project and replacing a team member’s image. Select representative tasks that exercise both content fields and template rules.
Use realistic material in the session. A short demonstration title does not reveal how a long headline wraps or what happens when an optional field is empty. Let the editor perform the action while the builder observes. The points where the editor hesitates show where the system or documentation needs improvement.
Teach the boundaries as well as the controls
Explain which changes are routine and which affect shared components, URLs or integrations. An editor should know when a change can influence several pages. Give examples using the actual website rather than abstract terminology.
Write short instructions beside the tasks they support. A publishing guide might cover image preparation, category selection and page preview. A maintenance note might explain how a form connects to another system. Keep the documents easy to update so they remain useful after the next design or workflow change.

Verify the launch as a set of journeys
Check the primary paths on the published site: entry page to service, service to project, project to enquiry and enquiry to confirmation. Review navigation with a keyboard and at narrow widths. W3C’s page-structure guidance supports meaningful headings and regions that help people orient themselves.
Confirm domain behaviour, important links, form receipt and the expected measurement signals. Record any known issue with an owner rather than leaving it as a comment in a meeting. The site can look finished while operational details still need attention.
Schedule a focused post-launch review
Define a review point and the evidence to bring: editing questions, failed requests, broken links and observed visitor confusion. Keep it focused on whether the launched system works as intended. Separate newly requested features from defects in agreed functionality.
Close the handover with an ownership record covering the domain, platform account, integrations, content and ongoing maintenance. Confirm that the people responsible can access what they need. This gives the website a sustainable operating model and reduces dependence on informal knowledge held by one person.
Handover is complete when the team can perform its work and knows who owns the exceptions.
