Prepare a Figma design for Webflow, transfer a representative section and review the layout, classes and content before scaling the build.

Define what the handoff must preserve
A design handoff should explain hierarchy, spacing, layout behaviour and content roles. It should also identify which patterns repeat and which are exceptions. Without those decisions, an import can transfer visual elements while leaving the build difficult to maintain.
Agree on the reference frames and the source of approved text. Remove obsolete alternatives from the handoff area. Label important interaction and responsive decisions in plain language so the implementer does not need to infer them from a desktop screenshot.
Prepare the file for a small import
The official plugin supports syncing layers, variables and styles. Layers need Auto Layout, and custom fonts should be available in Webflow before transfer. For large designs, Webflow recommends moving smaller groups of sections or components.
Start with the current plugin instructions. Choose a section containing text, an image and a useful layout variation. It will expose more handoff problems than importing a simple decorative block.

Review names and HTML roles
Layer names influence the resulting classes and the plugin’s automatic tag choices. Inspect the transferred result instead of assuming it follows your project conventions. In particular, verify heading levels and the difference between a link and an action button.
Decide how imported class names will coexist with the existing system. Keep a clear record of any renaming or restructuring. A predictable naming scheme is more valuable to the next contributor than preserving every temporary layer label from a design file.
Practical takeaway: A good import reduces repetitive work; a good review makes the result maintainable.
Rebuild behaviour where the design is incomplete
Change the headline to a realistic long version and narrow the viewport. Check the image crop, button wrapping and spacing. Test the layout between the reference frame sizes as well as at the exact dimensions shown in Figma.
Review hover, focus, open and error states separately. The plugin’s documentation notes limits around variants, so do not assume a set of Figma states becomes a complete interaction automatically. Define the intended behaviour and test it in the working website.
Scale the workflow after one section passes
Approve the representative section against a short checklist: visual hierarchy, content behaviour, semantics and maintainability. Use the result to refine the handoff rules before importing the next set of sections.
Connect CMS fields and forms deliberately after the structure is understood. A successful visual transfer does not prove that a project card uses the correct CMS item or that a form reaches the right inbox. The handoff is complete when the site works with real content and the next editor understands it.
