Multilingual Website QA: Test the Whole Journey in Every Language

Check translated pages, locale switching, forms, links and layouts as complete journeys before releasing another language version.

A translated homepage does not establish that a language version is ready. Visitors also encounter navigation, error messages, forms and follow-up content. Test those elements together so the language choice remains coherent through the task.
Build a journey-based test list
Choose the main tasks for each audience: find a service, review a project, send an enquiry and understand the confirmation. Start from several entry pages, not only the homepage. Record the expected language at each step.
Create a separate check for pages that have no translated equivalent. Decide whether to keep the visitor in their current language, explain the limitation or offer another destination. An unexplained jump into a different language can make the site feel incomplete even when each individual page is polished.
Review content with a fluent reader
Check meaning, tone and terminology rather than word-for-word similarity. Service names and calls to action should make sense in the target language. Have someone who understands the offer verify that promises and exclusions remain accurate.
Review the surrounding interface: navigation labels, button text, image captions and form messages. Longer text can expose spacing problems that the primary-language design never revealed. Use realistic translations during layout review instead of waiting until the final content import.

Verify links and language relationships
Inspect the locale switch from a detailed page. Where an equivalent exists, the visitor should reach the corresponding content rather than unexpectedly returning to the homepage. Follow internal links to ensure they lead to the intended language.
Google documents hreflang annotations for identifying localized versions. Check that alternate-page relationships are configured consistently and reference the intended URLs. Language metadata does not replace a readable, complete localized page. Keep technical checks separate from editorial approval so both responsibilities are clear.
Continue through submission and response
Complete the form in each language and read the resulting confirmation. Verify that the receiving team can identify the language and respond appropriately. If an automated message follows, include it in the test.
Document any intentionally untranslated content so it is not mistaken for a defect later. Assign an owner to keep language versions aligned when a service changes. A multilingual launch is sustainable when the team knows which updates must be repeated and how incomplete translations are handled before publication.
A language version is ready when its important journeys are complete.
